Hello, my 5 yr old cat is sick and we don't know what's wrong. Yesterday he became very lethargic, would growl or whine when touched, and would not eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. I took him to the vet today - his white and red blood cell counts were normal, his liver and kidney functions were normal, his urine was normal, and he tested negative for pancreatitis. The vet gave him fluids, an antibiotic shot, and another shot of some kind of stomach soothing medication. She said she thought it was some kind of virus, but she couldn't say specifically what. She thought maybe pancreatitis, but that was ruled out. She wanted to give him a day or so before ordering tests for Feline Leukemia, FIV, and FIP.
When we got home from the vet, I guess maybe it was adrenaline or feeling a little better initially from the fluid, he had a couple bites of food, and I was feeling hopeful that he'd get better. He was still lethargic but he was purring again. As the day went on though, he's gotten worse again. He's very lethargic, growls and whines when touched, and is not eating or drinking. He did pee once, in the litterbox.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? How did it turn out? I am just devastated. He's so young and I love him so much. If it's something terrible, I'm also nervous he could have infected my other cat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
