When Sable came back to me he was being fed Purina Pro Plan Hairball Control kibble and a half can of Fancy Feast a day. We have pretty much moved onto better kibble--Wellness Indoor Health and Blue Indoor Health mixed in with a little of Kody's Taste of the Wild.
I am having concerns with the canned though. I have upped it to 1 and 1/2 to two of the little cans a day. He loves the Soulistic--but only the fish flavors--and I have read that they shouldn't have the fish but 2 or 3 times a week max. We have tried Merrick's (won't touch), Dick Van Patten (occasionally he will eat), Tiki Cat (won't eat), Taste of the Wild (won't eat), Wellness (doesn't like at all, but I can mix alittle in with the Fancy Feast), Holistic Select (will eat one flavor as long as it is not too often), and now the Purina ProPlan.
The only Fancy Feast I feed him are the Classic Tender Beef Feast and the Classic Turkey and Giblets Feast. They looked like the best of the worst to me--no wheat gluten, but the beef feast has fish listed as the 4th ingredient. He seems to really like a couple of flavors of the ProPlan-- chicken and liver--he loved it--as much as the Fancy Feast. It was the same classic style and didn't have any wheat gluten in it. The only other one I found with no gluten was a Senior Cat Chicken and Beef entree, and he liked this too.
I know both are made by Purina--is the ProPlan any better than the Fancy Feast, or would I just be going from one bad to another just as bad? The ProPlan costs quite a bit more than the Fancy Feast, but right now it is on sale at PetsMart for about the same price.
