Hi, I know I’m late to the thread here. Glad your baby is looking better!! At the risk of offending someone (I don’t mean to, really), if there’s any chance of it being herpes, ask your vet to prescribe famciclovir. My cat had recurrent, stubborn herpes and it really can damage a cat’s eye if it goes on too long. Two years ago, I took my cat to not one, but TWO vets for stubborn eye weeping. Both prescribed antibiotic cream and lysine and told me I worried too much. Within a few weeks I almost lost my cat bc I was “trying to to be a helicopter cat owner” (something I was gaslighted into thinking I was). I was ignoring the “little weepiness” that continued to happen. Turns out he’d stopped drinking water bc, like with humans, the herpes makes it hard to drink. He had a seizure. Almost died. Saw a eye specialist who gave him famciclovir, and within a month the weepiness that had been plaguing him for four months—even with vet care—had disappeared...and its mostly stayed away. And its effectiveness makes it actually cheaper in the long run. And like many, I believe lysine made my cat sicker.

Just giving an update for anyone still curious about how things are going. His eyes are pretty much back to normal now so we are stopping the drops. He seems to actually be all better!

But, he still has those dang sores around his whiskers and mouth and seems a bit itchier than usual. I think I have figured out what the cause is though. I began giving him a new probiotic recommended by my vet a few days before the sores began. So I’m going to stop giving the probiotic and see if they go away. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your response! It seems that my kitty is doing all better now after some oral antibiotics and eye drops. I’m sorry to hear about what happened to your cat. What a scary experience!

I'm so happy to hear that he's doing so much better :happycat::clapcat::happycat:

I really hope the probiotic is the culprit behind those pesky sores. I guess he could be having a reaction the the carrier. :crossfingers: that stopping them does the trick.:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Your update has made my day!:cloud9:

Hmm, just thought I'd comment, this is the second time in quite a short period of time that I'm reading cat owners seeing issues from probiotics. :(

Honestly I had my reservations when she recommended it because when I opened the bottle it was orange coloured... I've never seen probiotics that are orange, there was obviously some artificial colouring or flavouring in it. But I figured, hey, it's vet recommended and I'm desperate to stop his diarrhea.

I don't know for sure yet if it was the probiotics, but the timing sure is right. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
