Expired Fortiflora, Safe To Use?

I have a box the vet gave me as its expired and they cannot return it. Im nervous about giving it to my cat. But need to get her to eat. It expired in march 2016

It's safe:) The probiotics are probably not effective anymore but the animal digest stuff is still good to use as an appetite stimulator.

What does it normally smell like? Been while since i used it.

Well, I'm sure it doesn't smell especially good to humans, lol. But you can usually figure out if it's rancid or not. Plus, cats are pretty good at that so if she eats it willingly there's nothing to worry about.
