Basically, I know only ONE expensive breed, the Mesopation Blue. I know there are others, can any of you name any?

Hmm, what do you consider expensive? And I'm sure there's always a big price difference between show quality, pet quality, breeding quality, and the various lines/pedigrees/championship backgrounds/etc.

Also, there is no such breed as the Mesopation Blue. When I Googled it, it corrected to Mesopotamian Blue. . .but this is a fictional breed from a novel, not a real breed :dk:.

I found this list from a website dated dec 18th 2012
The Ashera $125,000
The Bengal $42,000
The Savannah $22,000
I don't know the most expensive in Australia but a few breeders list prices on their websites. I am adding them for interest sake. I've seen Russians for $700, British shorthairs for $900, singapura $1,200. Have also seen other singapura for $700. These were all registered Australian breeders.

I don't know about that article. I researched a few breeds about a year ago and most pedigreed cats were in the $1000 range. That included Maine Coons, Abysinnians, British Shorthairs, Singapuras and Egyptian Maus.

Wish I had never Googled what these were.  Had never heard of one before .. now I WANT!
In my humble opinion, the Ashera cat is a scam! It  was created by Simon Browdy. It is an "ordinary" F2 Savannah that is WAY over priced. Just look at this link: http://ashera-savannah-cat.blogspot.com/2008/06/dna-evidence-proves-that-ashera-is.html,

According to this link http://www.petside.com/slideshow/expensive-cat-breeds#595974  the Savannah and the Ashera have the highest price tags.
Please see above posts
.

Now for my
. The most expensive cat, in my humble opinion is the Safari cat. That is a cross between the Leopardus geffroyi (Geoffrey's cat) and a domestic cat. I believe there are less then a 200 individuals in the world. They are the top of the line hybrid. Since, a pure Leopardus geffroyi are extremely tame and very easy for the "average" person to work around/with. The only drawback and for many people it is a major drawback, is the STRONG smelling URINE they posses. Plus, like all exotics, castrated (spayed or neutered) or not they will spray. Unlike, many other exotic cats, that do NOT have strong smelling spray, the Geoffrey Cat does. Please look at this link about Leopardus geoffroyi: http://www.noahfcc.com/geoffroys.htm.

The Safari cat does not mark, as a general rule. They are VERY good with the litter box. They are VERY friendly with there people. Unlike, almost every other F1 exotic cat hybrid they LOVE to sit on the owners lap. Here are some websites for anyone to look at: http://www.bellehollow.net/photos.htm?p_category=11&p_subcategory=132, http://www.bellehollow.net/photos.htm?p_category=1&p_subcategory=156 and http://marechalcattery.com/breed_and_generation_comparison.htm (go to the middle and look at the "breed" comparision behavior chat).

This website, can explain far better then me, as to why this hybrid is so hard to breed: http://www.messybeast.com/small-hybrids/geoffroy-jaguarundi-hybrids.htm. Hopefully, that is a good enough explanation. If not, I am not sure what I can try and explain/add, but, I will try
.
The prices are $7,500 at the "cheapest" which is seen here:http://www.bellehollow.net/pricing.html.

Yes, the Safari is my dream cat. But, between the rarity and the price, it isn't happening any time soon.

Having found that cat so striking I did do quite a bit more research and came to the same links and conclusions.   Certainly way over-priced.

I suspect the article that had the really high prices was referencing the highest prices ever paid for that breed. I'm sure there's always some crazy rich person :lol3: willing to pay a ton without haggling, and maybe it was an outstanding example of the breed. But those aren't the average prices for those breeds, for sure.
