No, never have although some has been temptingly good smelling and looking. I did eat some homemade mouse and rat treats once, they had bird seed in them.. they didnt stay down either. The rats liked them though of course.
OK, I have been tempted to try it...and now there is just NO WAY! And I don't EVEN want to know what a helicobactor pylori is!Originally Posted by Hydroaxe
Our stomachs are not as acidic as a cats stomach, so we don't combat or break down bacteria from food as effectively as cats do. Pet food has much lower processing standards, so for that reason alone I wouldn't try pet food. Who knows what kind of bacteria has grown in the food? Maybe it won't make you immediately sick, but who knows that it doesn't carry something less noticeable, yet dangerous, such as helicobacter pylori?

Well today I just happened to dig up a couple of articles on helicobacter to pm to Susi regarding her endoscopy thread. Nobody is going to like this third article I found. It mentions that kissing your cat puts you at risk for getting helicobacter. Now it totally makes sense to me. The food processing standards for pet food is very low, which increases the chances of helicobacter being present. Cats' stomachs handle it better, so it doesn't matter to them as much, but us however... well we just are more susceptible by the nature of our stomachs I think.Originally Posted by lakeriedog
