I have a 6 month old kitten, Iggy, with eosinophilic granuloma complex. She was diagnosed when she was 4 months old. I am extremely overwhelmed with this right now and really need some advice. Little Iggy licks the fur off of her back thigh non-stop. She was given a steroid shot and she stopped immediately, but as soon as the shot wore off within 30 days, she was back to licking it.
I took her to the vet again and they said it looked alright, just to keep an eye on it and they gave me Atopica to start her on. I also started her on a prescription food they gave me. Unfortunately, a few days after the vet she started chewing on it again. They gave me the Atopica because they said they didn't want to give her another steroid shot so soon.
She has been on Atopica for almost a week and it is getting worse. She has to have a cone on 24/7 or else she attacks her back leg. Her thigh is completely bald and is a bright salmon pink (even though she hasn't touched it in days because of the cone). It isn't oozing or anything, but she just won't stop biting it if her cone isn't on.
How long does Atopica take to work? Can someone please give me some words of encouragement because I am getting extremely overwhelmed with this, I am only 22 and this is my first pet on my own. Can someone please give me some tips, tricks, or homeopathic remedies to try?
I don't know what to do. Between work, graduate school, and constant vet appointments, I am going crazy.
