Amanda, this is exactly what I was asking about. Bill Crosby has also made quite an issue out of the street slang and particularly how young black people speak (and some young white people as well who are trying to be "cool"). Even in the days of the flower children, they had their own words and language but when they went for a job they used proper English and grammar. Some of their words have been incorporated into the current language but did not replace proper English words. Changes are understandable... but what is going on these days is a deterioration in our language. It'll be a cold day in h*** before I write or speak 'street slang' or what I call Thug Talk. Anyone remember the whole Ebonics thing? I was having nightmares. Heck, I still do.
