Hi everyone.

I am posting here to see if anyone has an anecdotal experience regarding the early symptoms of dry FIP.

One of my cats (1.5 yrs old) was recently diagnosed with dry FIP and his symptoms started out as a bizarre neurological episode leaving him walking hunched over with his tail between his legs for 2 days and then he seemed to go back to normal aside from some mild symptoms - runny poop off and on, and vomiting clear liquid every now and then. He turned down food a few times as well which is unsusual for him, but ending up eating again after a while.

My vet did a spinal fluid test and he said it was unlikely to produce a false positive but the other cases of FIP that I have read about online seem to be much more severe than this. I am wondering if we just caught it early or if it takes some time to progress? Can anyone share what the symptoms were like for their cat early on in the diagnosis?

Thank you!

I'm sorry your'e going through this with your cat.🤗 Our guy was almost 3 yrs. old at the time he was diagnosed with FIP but it was 12 yrs. ago. As I'm sure you know it's usually, albeit not always, more prevalent in younger cats. Since it's been some time since our cat has passed I remember our regular vet trying everything possible to help him including IV fluids. He was lethargic, no appetite whatsoever, weight loss, I think fever and elevated WBC. I honestly don't remember if he had GI symptoms, e.g. diarrhea. Since he was going downhill I got a second opinion from a Veterinary Internal Medical Specialist but unfortunately his organs started to shut down.

Since our cat has gone to the Bridge there has been more research and help available. Definitely join FIP Warriors as suggested above. I also thought this thread might give you some helpful information especially about the use of Mutian for treatment:
