Several of my cats have a lot of dry flakes of skin coming off right now, it has been a long dry winter , and they spend much time near the wood stove. They like their grain free food and it works even for the tender stomach of the one elderly cat . But really it is kind gross she had a lion cut do to matts in the fall and is still covered dandruff. Others all have some . Supplement suggestions?
Washing? Help.

You may need to add some humidity to your home to help with the dry air and your cat's flaky skin. Here is a thread that discuss this subject: Dry, flaky skin
Is the grain free food kibble or canned? This thread may help with that subject: Cut down on shedding

I found that adding a small amount of salmon oil to the diet made a huge difference for my cats.

Also, frequent brushing will help to spread natural body oils throughout a cat's hair, and will help immensely to reduce mats - once her hair grows back in.
