Door-darting

So Wendel's latest thing (he's such a typical boy sometimes

) is door-darting. He times it and makes a dash, just as we open the main door. He's made it outside once, where his freaked out mom managed grab him from the driveway.

Any suggestions to stop this?

We don't have a foyer, although I'm thinking of somethggn that makes a loud noise just as he tries it. I figure it will scare him off, but am worried it could panic him enough to really run...

I have had the same problem with my current cat and with other cats I have owned. My best advice is to remove the cat from the area of the door when you are going out and be ready for a bolt to the door when you come in. Basically when going out, pick up your cat and take them to another room, if your cat follows you, talk to it firmly and then put them in the room again. After a time this should get the message across. I am sure there are other ways to do this but this method was effective for me.
