I have a cat that loves to ride on my shoulder. Every time I come home, she hops on me and stretches out across my shoulders, purring loudly the entire time. She loved it as a tiny kitten, and stopped for a bit when she reached puberty, but now almost two years later, she loves it as much as she used to then (even if her change in size since then makes it a bit difficult at times). She will get off me when I "dock" at the cat tree, but only if she wants to. Otherwise, she'll just look at it as if to say "Er...what is THAT?" , and climb higher on my shoulder, as if I were standing chest-deep in rising tar.
She is very closely bonded to me, and fairly aloof with others. I am the only person that she does this with, and purrs when I pick her up (unless she wants to be left alone, then she tolerates it for a bit, then starts wiggling). As far as I know, she does not do that with anyone else either. It makes some people think that she's mean or "ungrateful", but she is very easygoing, and even if overstimulated or scared, will simply walk away, as opposed to clawing or biting. Does anyone else have a purring monkey?
