A gattara is Italian for basically a 'cat lady'.  The Italians have their own word for it!

  I wonder if other languages do.

I certainly am!  If I were in France, I'd also be a Chatte. In Germany a Katzenfrau and in Poland a Kocica.

The direct translation of Cat Lady into Japanese would be Neko Ona, but I've never heard anyone use that. Most people say Nekozuki, which means Cat Lover. There are just as many Cat Men as Cat Ladies in Japan, that's probably why.
