So i've decided to feed a 3-4 years old feral everyday because i find him too thin this year, compared to the other years where he was very robust. Oddly, his neck and shoulders are still broad, but not his lower body. This feral, let's call him Minou, is my cat's uncle, and most likely her father too. I knew him as a kitten, but could never approach him till i started feeding him daily. e has had human contact though, as the nighbors feed him through their basement windows and sometimes get to scratch his head.
For those of you who helped me when my Pixie was sick last year when i took her in at 5 weeks old, she is doing very well now and is living a comfortble life with me indoors. But her mother miscarried and died in the spring, and her uncle\dad Minou doesn't seem to be thriving anymore.
Long story short, i'm guetting a trap and the SPCA tomorrow. He will examined, neutered, treated for fleas and ear mites (worms too i reckon) and get his shots. All in one day. Not sure about how safe that is, so i guess that's my first question. Is that even safe? He will be released back in my yard the same day.
Me second questions, how dangerous is it for my own house cat for me to roll in the grass with Minou? He has fleas, and gods knows what else. He is VERY affectionate with me, rubs himself on me, head buds, etc. I leave my shoes out, but my cat has access to them when she come with me on my patio. I wash my hands when i get inside, but can diseased stick to my clothes? My cat has had all her shots last autumn. I dont treat her for fleas as she never gets in the grass or come near other cats. I use special dishes to feed the feral, but wash them in the same sink. Am i being a bit paranoid? I want to help the feral and enjoy our lovey dovey time together, but i don't want to make my cat sick.
