Hi all,
I've been doing lots of research on what food I should get for my 19 year old boy. He's currently eating about 2 cans of wet Fancy Feast every day. He had lab work done a few days ago for a UTI and here are the results - excuse me if not all of these values are relevant to kidneys:
ALB: 4.3 (normal range 2.5 - 3.9)
AMYL: 1181 (normal range 100 - 1200)
BUN: 45 (normal range 14 - 36) -- his BUN has been relatively stable at this value for years
CHOL: 276 (normal range 75 - 220)
CREA: 2.0 (normal range 0.6 - 2.4)
LIPA: 328 (normal range 0 - 205)
PHOS: 4.5 (normal range 2.4 - 8.4)
He normally weighs around 20-21 pounds but has recently dropped to 19.4 (the first time he's ever lost weight). I'm definitely trying to get him to lose weight now, since he also has arthritis, but I obviously don't want that to happen too fast or be a detriment to the CRF.
Do you have any suggestions on what to feed? We've tried Hills k/d before and he wasn't the biggest fan. I'm doing lots of research but I also feel like I'm going in circles a bit with protein and phosphorous. I was planning on trying Iams Multi-Stage Renal and Royal Canin Renal...has anyone had luck with those?
ETA: I apologize since there are so many of these threads going around! I just love your opinions and would feel better if you all saw his specific numbers. I'm thrown for a loop since his phosphorous is within the normal levels...
