I have just read in a Hamlyn book that "in the USA, diatomaceous earth is popular as a flea treatment" and directions are given on dusting bedding, carpets etc. and the cat's fur with it. In thirty years of owning cats and dogs, I have never heard this before! Does this really work?

To be honest, I havn't tried that one, but in my own experience, I havn't found anything "natural" to get rid of fleas to work.

I use this outside only around the house, it is toxic to animals though if they inhale it so you have to be cautious with it. I would not put it on a cat, not in any matter. I use it to stop carpenter ants, because we used to have a lot of those. When we rebuilt the one section of our home, I put the diatomaceous powder inside the walls before sealing the walls in, but again putting it in contact with the animals or on the animals, I would never do.
