I'm new to this site and not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I am desperate for help and advise.
About 6 days ago my 12 month old cat "Simba" come in and I noticed that the last 1 1/2 inch's of his tail was just hanging due to what looked like a brake.
Also about another inch up his tail was what seemed to be another brake although this one didn't look as bad as the first and wasn't causing that part of the tail to hang.
Even though Simba had these injures he seemed quit happy and ate, drank and went to the toilet.
The next morning I was about to take him to the vets when he escaped out the window.
Despite looking high and low for him he didn't come back till this afternoon, nearly five days latter.
I found him trying to walk across the garden which was almost impossible for him to do as his back legs keeped giving away.
I picked him up and rushed him to the vets before it closed.
On the way to the vets I see noticed that the part of his tail below the bad brake had gone black and the fur had fallen off.
When we see the Vet I explained all about his tail but he didn't seem to think that the tail was causing the problems with his back legs but thought he probably had damaged his Spine or pelvis in a road accident.
Then went on to tell me that if this was the case the costs could go into £1000's or I could get him put down!. Which is not an option for me.
Simba has been keeped at the vets tonight and is going to be X-rayed in the morning.
I do not believe though that he has been In a road accident and think that his back legs have gone like that because of somthing called Tail Jerk.
I would love to here from anyone who's cats have had this problem.
Thanks
Nick
