This is a silly little question: My 3-year old British Shorthair (and I suspect other cats) plays with little soft balls that she can bat around easily. Sometimes, usually at night, she picks one up and carries it around, meowing loudly. She carries it to near where my wife or I am and drops it, looking at us speculatively. Why does she do this? I realize that this behavior is similar to what cats do with prey. Is it just some prey capture surrogate behavior? Any thoughts?
