some back story: my Cookie is an indoor/outdoor cat although she stays primarily indoor. I live in a suburban area. she has always been this way since I rescued her as a kitten from a really bad urban area. i keep her updated on shots and everything because I know the dangers of coming in contact with disease outdoors.
anyways, last night she was crying to be let out so I opened the window for her (she likes to go out through there and down a tree). later on that night when I was asleep I heard a small commotion outside. I groaned internally because that usually means she got in a scuffle with another cat or animal, so I went downstairs to call for her but she never came inside. I went back to sleep pretty restless because I was worried about her.
around 6am she showed up at my window and when I let her in I noticed her fur was either wet or oily and it seems like she might've been roughed up. I didn't get a chance to inspect her further because she instantly went to groom herself and fell asleep. I was half asleep and I figured she looked so exhausted I didn't want to wake her.
since then I've tried to go back to sleep but I couldn't I figured I would post here just to get some feedback. for a while I thought she smelled funny but now that I'm more awake I think it's just the litterbox that I have to clean (which is still kinda odd considering she doesn't really like to use it).
now I'm just waiting for her to wake up and get up so I can examine her properly. what I usually do in these situations is clean her wound (if she's wounded) with some water and then peroxide to disinfect it. today I might also get a cloth soaked in part peroxide part water to clean her down. ---- Okay I just did some quick research to find that peroxide is not recommended and now I feel pretty awful that I've been using it, thankfully not too often or in large amounts, but still.
sigh I'm feeling pretty lousy and need advice to better take care of my cat. I love her dearly.
it's 7am here and I've been awake since 6am struggling to sleep, I've had 3 hours tops, so excuse the possible incoherence in this post. I'm normally not up at this hour if I don't have work, and I went to sleep pretty late last night, so I'm still groggy.
