I don't know how true this really is, but it never hurts to be informed just in case. Of course, I don't understand any of this computer mumble-jumble myself, but maybe it will be of some benefit to others.

Well, it's true enough that such a worm exists, and it's supposed to do some updating starting April 1. If you're using Windows XP or Vista and have Windows Automatic Update turned on, you've already been "vaccinated," although you should definitely do a virus scan on a regular basis. Windows Defender and Malicious Software Removal Tool can take care of it, if you find it.

April 1st, huh? Sounds like a joke to me.
Regardless, people should always keep their software up to date and not do things that put them at risk.

I don't think it's a joke. They have been warning of this on microsoft site and on the news today.

Well, there's been so much press I'd say that either the author's intent has already been fulfilled, or else he just waits until everybody thinks the danger is past.

Snopes says it's the real deal, and they're saying it's a significant threat. I hope between my Microsoft automatic updates, and my Panda Antivirus/Firewall, I'm protected. I can't remember where I read this (I've been searching it all evening) but apparently Microsoft has a huge reward offered for information leading to the creator of this worm. It's called The Conficker C worm. It also goes by Downadup or Kido.

Here's a link to Norton (Symantec) that describes it. They aren't making a big deal about it. http://www.symantec.com/norton/theme...conficker_worm Even Panda's website isn't acting too worried about it. Go figure.

That's interesting considering that Symantec have been accused of falsely playing up how bad a threat level viruses and worms will be to help sell their products.
