yeah just echoing what has been said - if you leave the collar on a cat, even if they get moody about it initially, will quickly learn to not care.
I never put a collar on one of my cats unless I can test the clasp and make sure it is sturdy but will give under reasonable pressure.Not a standard procedure to tattoo non pedigree animals. Chipping is more common but only someone with a reader can detect it. I've never had an issue with a collar.
