After doing a lot of thinking about Boomer's mouthy behavior and hand shyness I decided to give clicker training a shot. We are on day 3. First I just "loaded" the clicker like you would with a dog (click, treat) over and over. Now I have started clicking and treating for any positive interactions with me and my hands. Every time he rubs my hand he gets a click and treat. If he should open his mouth as if to bite it's game over. I just get up and walk away. His approach behavior is stronger but that's about all so far. I reached down to pick up his litter box and change it and he nipped my arm. I froze, then turned and walked away. Came back and changed the box in 10 or so minutes.
Is there anything I should be doing differently? Anyone had success with shaping behavior with a clicker? He is VERY food motivated. I just don't want to mess up my foundation work with him. Advice is appreciated!
