I go the preventative route and cover the trees and all the beds with baby blankets. Plush when it's cold and recieving when it's warm. I don't let them get very hairy because they get hair balls if they're sleeping on hair. The favorite spots get changed once or twice a week. I use a rubber brush to get as much hair off as possible so I don't clog the washer. The rubber brush is also great for getting pine neeedles up on the carpet.
