I keep trying to clean the discharge under her eyes but it looks permanently stained and I can't get rid of it. I only tried with water and cotton buds, should I try something else?
Experts, rescue me, please!
no don't use anything else to clean the eyes other than water and cotton or soft cloth. if you are worried about it consult your vet. some cats actually have stain like markings in the corners of their eyes. it's part of their camoflage and nothing to worry over. also as the kittens get older they will shed that coat and the stain, if that's what it is, will grow out.Originally Posted by Ileana and Douggie

you should not use saline on cats eyes. plain filtered water or distilled water is the best. most human eye wash preps contain saline.Originally Posted by Cearbhaill
To clean eyes you can use water or any number of eye wash preparations. If the eye is tearing excessively it could point to a problem which would need to be diagnosed properly before any remedies are suggested. Possible causes are chronic herpes infection, foreign body, conjunctivitis, scratched cornea, blocked drainage ducts, etc.
If you have simple eye stains from normal tearing there are several OTC products you can try- many of us have had great results with Eye Envy
I can find no references for opthalmic saline solutions being contraindicated in cats.Originally Posted by ocicat_steph
