For a little over 2 weeks now I've been trying to transition Mario onto wet food. She's a complete kibble addict!
So for about a week and a half I've been using the Soulistic Chicken & pumpkin. She has gotten to the point where she will eat her kibble right next to the plate of wet food - before she would refuse to eat her kibble if it was anywhere near wet food. Lately I've been pilling her with her pred & pill pocket treats - dipping the treats in the chicken & pumpkin gravy so she gets the tastes in her mouth. This week she has had two vomiting episodes, one on Thursday night (the first time I tried pilling her with the swipe of chicken, and one again this morning. But the episode this morning didn't seem to bother her - I don't think her stomach was upset, I think she just drank too much water (and mommy was really lazy and didn't get out of bed until 9:30 so poor Mario was very hungry) so the too much water and food and acids just caused an upset!
So I am going to try a few more days of this method, but I've been thinking perhaps I should try and start with something completely brand new - no grains, no starches, nothing she's ever had before - and foods I used to feed her on a few years ago had chicken by-product in them. (I haven't fed her anything with chicken by-product in it for about a year so I really do not think that attributes to her vomiting, but you never know).
So if I have another few upset tummy episodes this week (we've been pretty steady at 1 episode every two weeks), I may need to switch the wet food I'm trying to something completely brand new.
So here's what I'm looking for: a grain free, starch free (ideally I'd like to give her pumpkin, but that can wait until I've ruled everything else out) - something with venison, or rabbit. No poultry, beef, pork, or fish and no peas since that is what she is eating right now. Also - something in a non pate style. Something with chunks and gravy - so I can use the gravy on her pill pockets and kibble to get her used to the smell. Are there any of these out there? So far I've only found pate' ones.
Thank you!
