My parents "have" a cat named Rascal. I use quotations because Rascal technically belongs to our neighbors across the street. In my opinion, he was never particularly well cared for- they certainly rarely gave himthe kind of affection a pet deserves. They mostly kept him outdoors with Kansas, their collie dog. Kansas and Rascal were inseperable- they used to play and roll around and sleep together on the step- it was the sweetest thing ever! Well, Kansas got old and died a few years back, at which point Rascal seemed even less cared for (esp since a somewhat messy divorce went on around the same time). He apparently decided enough was enough and spent less time there. After a few months he got wise and took up territory across the street with my parents who began leaving food out for him (he had gotten thin) and eventually took up a more permanent residence. Now he is a part of my parents family- they didn't try to convert him from an outdoor cat (he would hate it and they have a wicked mean indoor cat)- rather he is so good he comes in every night when they get ready to shut the garage doors. My dad dotes on him and has built up old bedding for him on our old tractor, even going do far as putting in a heater for cold nights.
So anyways- my question. My parents are afraid to leave the space heater on overnight so I suggested a cat bed- can anyone recommend a non-electric bed that will keep a cat warm in a garage on cold nights (they are in CT so it gets pretty cold). I was thinking it would make for a good Christmas for this re-adopted cat (it needs to be big however, he has gotten rather round from my parents feeding him!)
