I accidentally let my kitten see birds on the TV the other day, he chirped a little but lost interest when they didn't react. Today he chirped when I tried to engage him with his favourite ball. I've read that chirping can mean anything from frustration to amusement?

Hi!
I copied this from a TCS article;
Chirping is another sound that cats make that’s similar to chattering, but is distinct. A chirp is usually a single sound and it’s done when the cat gets excited. Often, they do it in response to seeing someone or something they love.

If your cat chirps at you when you enter the room, it’s a sure sign he’s excited to see you. Other times a cat may chirp including while he’s playing or when you feed him.

In this case, chirping is a good thing! Your cat loves that toy, and is excited to play with it! He obviously isn't frustrated about the ball, he actively wants to engage. Hence, he chirps.
