Hi! I have 2 cats, an 18 month old with teeth issues who has been ordered by the vet to eat a prescription dry kibble (Hills). I also have a kitten (8 months) who is a little fat for her size, and greedy, so in the same vets trip my vet said to stop wet food feeding in my house all together.
However, I currently free feed dry and portion feed wet. I cant free feed prescription kibble because the kitten eats it, I cant free feed regular kibble because the other cat eats it.
In addition to this, we've recently been offered a baby kitten (currently 6 days old). In 12 weeks or so, Ill have a 3rd mouth to feed. One on kitten kibble, one on adult kibble, and one on prescription
My instincts and everything else Ive read on this site makes me sad about stopping wet food!! I just know Ill get a lot of sad kitty crys when their breakfast no longer comes. Plus free feeding will have to stop, Im going to have to portion their dry and feed them seperatly, probably having to lock them up for a bit so they dont eat each others. This, to me, sounds like a nightmare because the oldest cat is used to eating 1 kibble piece every 20 mins throughout the day. Trying to get him to eat a bowlful at once?? It'll drive me crazy. They both drink plenty of water so Im not worried about UTIs because of the lack of wet food.
Does anyone else have 3 cats and 3 food types? Has anyone else gone from wet to dry? Free feed to portion feeding... etc. How long should I expect it to take? I want it to be in place before we get kitten number 3 ideally. Any advice/stories (and a recommended kitten kibble) would be nice. Is there such a thing as a prescription food that isnt Hills? I dont really like the ingredients, but I do want something good for his teeth. Thanks for any ideas in advance!
