Hi everyone. This is my cat Randy. His nose is swollen and a bit dark. He has dry dark colored discharge in his nostrils. Does anyone know what this might be? He went to the vet on Thursday and they have him on antibiotics and a steroid for the next two weeks. They said if that does not clear it up I’ll be referred to a specialist.

He is adorable. Ask your vet about cryptococcus. See if it is in your area. Another thing is to keep that pink nose out of the sun.
I wondered if it could possibly be a fungal infection. The vet mentioned that as a possibility but didn’t prescribe him anything for fungus. Randy showed up in my backyard one day and he was out there living under my shed for about 3 weeks before I decided I would bring him in. So the vet thinks he was about 5 months old when I first brought him in. So he did spend the first bit of his life outdoors. He’s strictly indoors now.

Oh, glad he is indoors now. Lucky cat. There is a blood test they can do for Cryptococcus. The treatment is anti fungal orally but you wouldn’t want to give without a diagnosis.
