My cat woke up from a nap earlier today and his eye was like this. Any idea what it could be? Just irritated from dust or could it be possibly something that a vet will have to check out. I’ll be making an appointment if there’s no signs of improvement either way of course.

How is he acting?

Jasper's eyes started like this then ended up the other eye getting puffy. I had to take him to the vet for an allergy shot as it turned out to be high levels of pollen messing with him.

I'd give it a day or so to see how he is, assuming he's acting normally

Hope he feels better soon!

He’s been perfectly normal!! That’s why I’m not super nervous. But I’ll give it a few days. Thanks for the reply it makes me a bit less concerned

It's possible your cat has a blocked tear duct. You can try to cleanse it with warm plain water but be gentle and careful. However, if it worsens and requires an antibiotic ointment or drops you will need to contact your vet. Here's an Article on eye problems in cats that you may find helpful: Eye Problems In Cats: What Every Owner Needs To Know

An update so if someone else comes across this. Today at the vet we did a full panel blood test. We are worried it is FIP or uveitis. Will be going to a vet that specializes in eyes. It is not pink eye, allergies or anything of the sort. We have him on eyedrops as well as an antibiotic and an anti diarrhea medicine because he’s had addressed chronic diarrhea since we’ve adopted him.

Thanks for the update! I hope it's not FIP and will keep my fingers crossed.:crossfingers: But if it is there are many of us, myself included, who had a cat diagnosed with FIP.
Praying it isn’t. It’s not looking good if it is FIP but I do know of a few cases where cats have survived. He’s just a baby it’ll break my heart

If it is FIP there’s a drug to treat it now, still experimental but it’s very effective. Fingers crossed it isn’t though, cats can have lots of different eye issues that are easily treatable!

He runs into everything he’s one of the most clumsy cats I’ve ever met so hoping he just bumped it really good and that’s why it developed. Another update we gave his some prescribed eye drops. He’s had three rounds so far and his eye is already looking blue again

Def keep us updated! I've had the exact same issue with Jasper almost (except his eyes just needed the allergy shot)

hope he's feeling better!

Eye is looking great! Just a bit of red still. Never seemed as tho he was in pain but cats hide it well. Received blood work back and everything was normal! No FIP, FIV, no coronavirus, white blood cells where normal, kidney, liver were all good as well. Vet said he’s perfectly healthy blood work wise. Still will be going to a eye vet tomorrow so that we make sure there’s proper drainage and maybe try and figure out what could be the cause.

He had uveitis because of allergies?! Our dog has bad allergies as well and receives shots and we always thought it was some plant in our back yard.
