Hi, my cat had a sequestrum that occurred a few months back, it was treated and she stopped showing signs of discomfort yet the black spot remained. Vets i went to said it was fine and it might take some time to drop off. Back then she was prescribed antibiotic eye drops which seemed to help. However, yesterday I noticed her not being able to open the affected eye and it seemed really angry and inflamed. Took her to a vet more specialised in cat eye health and she said the sequestrum was actually very deep and the likelihood of surgery to remove it is high, yet she gave me an antiviral eye drop to try using for a week first in the hopes that it could thin the sequestrum and hence make surgery less risky. She said the chances of it sloughing off on its own was very slim at this point so I was already prepared to bring my cat for surgery after the week.

However, today her sequestrum fell off! Has this occurred with anyone here before and does this mean she probably doesn't have to go for surgery? I understand it's common for small ulcers but hers was pretty large. About 1/3 or half the size of her pupil... I was thinking maybe all along it was infected by a virus and not bacteria that's why the eyedrop given by the second vet worked well.
