Cat Stopped Loving Me As Much As He Used To

I just adopted a 2 year old cat that used to be my roommates. I moved in with her and he loved me so much she decided to give him to me. She moved out about two months ago and took her dog with her. At first, my kitty seemed to be lonely and sad that his friend wasn't there anymore, but then got over it. He has always been the sweetest and would come running to me whenever I got home, would jump on my lap and kiss my face as soon as I sat down on the couch or got in bed. He slept with me every night and seemed to crave my attention. Just recently he's stopped doing most of those things. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong and I am scared that something is different or he's not feeling well. Ive read some threads and seen that maybe he is just feeling more comfortable and is becoming more independent but I miss him being as sweet as he used to and I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You might want to get him checked by the Vets just to be sure nothing is wrong with him as Cats are very subtle when it comes to pain

Do you play with him often?

Do you talk to him?

Try showing him extra love and affection and he'll notice that

This article comes to mind and I think would be a good read for you

Hope this helps!

PS - don't worry too much as he'll come round for sure!

I find my cat can be changeable in how much together time she needs. For a couple days she's there all the time wanting pets and asking for attention. The next thing I know she's around, but just being close by is enough. Other times she eats and then, "See ya" until the next meal.

I think he is feeling more comfortable now, and doesn't feel the need to be so clingy. Cats around that age naturally get more independent. The dog, even though he acted like he was comfortable around him, may have still made him feel insecure and uneasy. Try just picking him up and putting him on your lap, make a big fuss when you come home and offer good treats!

My cats are less cuddly when it's hot out, too. Did this shift in behavior coincide with summer coming?

Just a thought....

I agree that it's worth getting him a checkup at the vet. Peace of mind is priceless.

Juniper is a little younger than your cat and she can be very cuddly or very standoffish, depending on her mood. We just wait it out when she's in an independent phase, and she always eventually rewards us with snuggles.
