My 10 year old girl has been peeing outside her litter box. She has been to vet and they could not get a urine screen as her bladder is too small. She did have ultrasound done and they said there was nothing there.

We were explained it was behavioral. Any ideas for us. She likes to pee in the same in the same spots, and she does use her litter box just not all the time.

Pee pads. You can use dogs ones or cat litter box refills. I have been doing this with my kitten (long story short bad constipation and a week later an UTI). It is a temporary solution, but helps with the mess part.

The ultrasound is not going to be able to determine if there is a UTI - not all UTIs have to involve inflammation, which might be what would show up on an ultrasound. Most vets will allow walk ins for a tech to collect a urine sample, so you may have to consider doing that. You can also buy a urine collection kit, which has non-absorbable crystal litter that you place in a sterile litter box, and once she goes in it you collect the urine with a syringe that comes with the kit, and then take the urine to the vet for a urinalysis.

She is 10, so health issues do crop up as a cat ages - unless there have been some changes to her environment that might pose an issue to her, it is not likely to be solely behavioral. You need to consider when this inappropriate peeing started and see if you can trace it to something going on in your household that might explain it.

If you are not getting the urine smell out of those areas where she pees repeatedly, that is an invitation to pee in those same places over and over again.

You can use a soup ladle to catch her urine and take in for a sample.

Has she been checked for arthritis? Have you changed litter brands recently? Has anything changed in your home? Do you run calming agents in your house such as Feliway or Comfort Zone diffusers?
