I adopted a cat a year and 4 months ago. He’s around 3 and a total boy. Endless energy, super cuddly and friendly and plays non stop. We play with him (toys, laser, catnip) once or twice a day, plus he plays by himself. We have cat savvy dogs and he loves wrestling with them and playing with them. He has cat trees, litter boxes, feliway and a window seat. We also have a female that doesn’t acknowledge him much but they coexist well. Every few months he will come up and pee in our bed. It only happens once and it’s only every few months. He hasn’t done it since January but today walked in and peed on the dog bed. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to TCS. Sorry it's litter box issues that brought you here.

Did anything change/happen this week that might have stressed him out? He is neutered, right?

Yes neutered and no, nothing new in the past year since this has started, about a half a dozen times it’s happened

Cats generally don't do inappropriate peeing without a reason - mostly illnesses, but with your guy doing it so randomly, I can't imagine it is some serious illness. Could be some food source that bothers his stomach from time to time. If he is allowed to go outside, he may be getting into something or running into other cats now and then. There are a lot of things that could be happening that might cause him to inappropriately pee soon afterward - and, then go back to peeing in his litterbox once he's over whatever bothered him. There are a lot of things that go on that humans take for granted that some cats might not, and other things that could go on you aren't necessarily aware of.

The only thing I can offer at this time is to start charting what you can recall happened in the previous 24 hours before he does this each time from now on out. After a few times of doing so, you might just see a pattern.
