My cat is doing the same thing right now and the dental specialist suggested extractions which I don't think will help much because the dental cleaning seemed to make her worse. I started giving her "workssowell cat supplement" which seemed to help improve one of her inflamed gums but the supplements are a bit inconsistent. The first bottle we received was liquid and it was easy to apply to her gums. The second bottle came more solid which was a huge pain. I just ordered cetrizine maybe it'll help!

My cat recently started having the same problems. In October ‘21 I took her in to get teeth removed because she had teeth resorption and some infection, but she didn’t show any problems. A month after surgery she started pawing at her mouth. At first after eating, and it progressed to that as well as if she was hungry, or smelled food. My vet had no idea what was wrong, I mentioned FOPS from what I found online and she went with it. My cat has tried gabapentin, buprenorphine, and phenobarbital. She’s had the most success/results with gabapentin. She currently takes 250mg daily (she’s 9lbs) and is poorly managed with this dose. It keeps it minimal, but it still happens.
