Cat Licking Lips, Not Just To Clean Face, But After Eating Or When Just Moving...

We've gotten our cat on a new feeding regime that's worked as far as enabling him to eat without throwing up. We notice, however, that he is licking his lips frequently. We see that's listed as a symptom of acid reflux/GERD and are wondering what we can do or give him that will help him. He doesn't seem in distress but anything that might be a problem for him concerns us.

I would take your kitty to the vet ASAP, if you haven't already. The vomiting and possible nausea can be symptoms of so many things--some more serious than others. And chronic nausea is a horrible condition for an animal to suffer. Also, cats are experts at concealing pain and injury. You won't always be able to detect whether they are in distress or not. Whatever is bothering your cat, the sooner a diagnosis is made (and veterinary care is provided), the better. Good luck to your kitty!

Please don't give your cat anything unless a vet has specifically prescribed it. A vet will need to determine why your cat is lip licking, a common sign of nausea, and how to best treat it.

He's been to the vet already, gotten a prescription diet, and his medications & supplements are all vet approved. He is a lot better and no longer vomiting every few days. It's just this behavior that is concerning us that we could be doing more for him. Thank you all.
