Cat lethargic after a few weeks on prednisolone?

My cat has been taking prednisolone for inflammation for a few weeks now. The first week he was on 5 mg a day, the last three weeks he's been on 2.5 mg a day.

It's our first experience with a steroid. At first he was very awake, energetic, and playful. This last week he's still eating and drinking but has spent most of his time asleep.

I was wondering why the sudden behavior change? Is it likely the lower dose isn't putting as much pep in his step, or is it the fact that he's been on it for a month now and the side effects are starting to get to him?

Hi. I don't think it is commonplace for Pred to cause lethargy, but of course cats can react differently from others with most any med. I don't know what the inflammatory condition was that he is being treated for, but is it possible there is an infection also going on? Pred can lower a cat's immune system.

I'd call the vet and tell them about this change and see what they say.
