9 year old cat, child is 2 and a half. They can not even be in the same room or the cat will start hissing and growling. We have let the child put out the cats food. Cat will trot up happy as can be, see the child, hiss and run to our bedroom. Often urinating on the bed or floor after such an episode. Vet states no blood or urinary problems, issues have to be behavior based. We have plenty of cat trees and places the cat can go that are out of reach of the child and the cat will seldom use them. Suggestions appreciated.

You may have to rehome the child :)
Lol.

Since the cat is 9, the cat probably had many or just enough experiences with kids that weren't pleasant.

I guess just give it time, with supervised meetings. Maybe the cat will realize the 2.5 year old is safe to be around.

Kittens life was lost to a negligent veterinarian.

Probably best to treat the situation like you would introducing a new cat.
