my cat suddenly developed a swollen pink lower lip. took him to vet where he was examined - checked his mouth and felt round the throat and neck area. he gave me antibiotics after having a steroid injection. within a week my cat was back to normal i was so relieved. then 8 weeks later it came back, went back to the vets ! examined him again and said it was probably EGC complex. this time i got steroid tablets and have to have monthly prescriptions. the problem is he hates these pills and find it hard to give them. these pills should control swellings which can be caused by many things ie allergies often caused by fleas. must admit i do get worried about this condition i dont think there is actually a cure but my main concern was cancer. i wondered if a biopsy will be taken - but if so when ?

If the swelling comes and goes with the steroids then it likely isn't cancer. That said, if it would make you feel better you can ask your vet to take a sample and send it for testing. It is expensive though an may require your cat to go under anesthesia to take the sample.

I personally am not a fan of long term steroid use. I would, personally, look for a cat specialist or a second opinion. If you can find and treat the root cause of the inflammation that is better than treating just the inflammation.

Can you post a photo? My cat would get these things called granulomas on her upper lip. My vet had me use metal bowls only (no plastic), then try playing with her diet because it could likely be a good reaction.

My cat actually had part of her gum covering her tooth, so she would bite down on her gum sometimes, and then it would swell up and her lip would droop like she had a stroke. She got steroids and was fine. If it keeps happening, part of the gum will just have to be cut off.

Maybe it's something weird like that. Could get a second opinion
