Ginger likes sucking clothes and in last half hour has eaten a button from a cardigan. Do I wait and see what happens or is this a emergency?

I've emailed a photo of a remaining button with a ruler next to it to the emergency vet and the response was wait and see

Has it passed yet? Might not be enough time, but hard to say. If it was a flat button and not too large around I'm guessing it'll come out ok.

Where do you think?
In the future I would discourage chewing and sucking on fabric. He could choke on a button or piece of thread.

Thread has it's own complications if swallowed, can wrap around the gut and cause damage.
