Mr Poe, my handsome black cat, had his annual vet visit last month and she said to schedule a cleaning. In he went, yesterday, and when I picked him up he had three fewer teeth than when he went in - two bottom molars and an upper tooth. Apparently they were so loose that they just about fell out when they were being cleaned.
His appetite had been fine (and he's eating well after the dental.). No stinky breath. In 2012 he did have inflamed gums but they cleared up with antibiotic so not stomatitis. He gets a chicken gizzard now and then to gnaw on. He's only 3 years and a few months old.
Here's my question(s) - Does he just have poor teeth? Will he continue to lose teeth? What, if anything, can I do to alleviate the situation / slow or stop loss of other teeth? I did get some cat toothpaste prior to the dental but my sweet boy who will sit in my lap while I trim his claws, all 18 in one go, is clearly less than thrilled with tooth brushing.
