Jackie (4 years old, neutered) recently started doing this. He is on my lap/stomach while I’m in the lazy boy. I’m texting or reading on my tablet or phone (while sometimes I am occasionally petting him) & then he very gently nips my hand. It doesn’t hurt at all. It seems to be an asking for affection thing or maybe he wants to play?

Any idea how to nip this in the bud so he doesn’t think biting is ok? Why is he doing this? He is very good at being gentle and keeping his teeth/claws off the humans….. until recently.

It probably is wanting my full attention. 🤣 He is a cat that wants my full attention. He demands pets and cuddles every time I’m talking on the phone. He is more needy then my past cats.

Is he doing a little nibble? He might be grooming you too!

If you have not given him a negative response, then it is time to do it. A loud authorities “no biting!” and withdrawal of your attention by putting him on the floor may be all that is needed. Repeat every time and he will learn that if he wants to snuggle with you he cannot nip or bite.
