Cat ear bumps + redness

My cat had a couple of black bumps on his ear about a week or so ago, it eventually became an open sore that was red, and then it scabbed again. But now it looks like the redness is spreading, has anyone had similar issues with their cat? I sent pictures to the vet last week and they said as long as it's healing I don't have to bring him in, but to keep them updated. I just noticed the spreading redness today but they are closed until Thursday... Thanks in advance!!

Hi. There can be several causes for crusty, scaly ears in cats: several kinds of mites or other parasites, allergies, sunburn, and systemic disorders, to name a few. Is there anyone filling in for your vet that you could contact?

Without knowing what is behind the scabs, it is hard to offer any home remedy that you could use until your vet returns to the office. Is he scratching at his ears?

no he's not scratching, and they haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet. Sigh.
