We had 3 cats, a brother/sister pair and a younger unrelated female cat. Sadly, our older girl recently died. We try not to anthropomorphize the cats, but we were really surprised how her brother didn't seem to notice her passing. They always seemed to be so close. Yet, our boy acted like she never existed. Okay, whatever. I thought, may be he never liked her after all.
Then, I came home Tuesday night (tonight is Friday) and found him curled up on our bed. Odd, I thought, but not that unusual. Then I noticed that he never ate all day. I gave fresh food, and chalked it up to simply odd. The next day, he had gotten worse. He suddenly was hiding, not eating, and not grooming. He looked terrible. It was too late to take him to the vet, so first thing yesterday we took him to the vet. She tested him for everything, and could find absolutely nothing wrong. She gave him fluids and something that she thought would help the appetite. She called today, and my husband said that the "jury is still out." I was like, really? He hasn't eaten at all.
I am going to call the vet again tomorrow, but has anyone experienced anything like this? I have a cat that in theory is perfectly healthy, but something is clearly wrong. Could it be that it finally hit him that sis is gone?
