Just a small concern — I accidentally left some catnip unattended the other night, and lo and behold, one of the cats got to it. It was a very small bag, about the size of a toy mouse.

Last night he had diarrhoea and this morning he vomited his wet food. He's now resting up in bed. I'm not too concerned because I read that excess catnip symptoms will go away on their own, but I wonder how long my poor boy will be sick?

Awww!

I don't know, every cat is different, but if he isn't able to keep his food down by tomorrow, you might want to give the vet a call

Catnip is not toxic but can bring about symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting if they eat too much of it at one time. I do agree with Furballsmom Furballsmom that if the diarrhea and vomiting don't stop by tomorrow to give the vet a call. There may be some remedies that the vet can suggest giving him just to get him past the digestive upset.
