My cat Spartacus always wants to be near my baby. He doesn’t touch my baby, just occasionally sniffs him. He gets so close while I breastfeed too. He will stay in the same room as the baby even if someone else is with my son. My son is 3months.

any thoughts on Spartacus’s behavior?

Probably just curiosity. Lots of baby smells and things to check out. TCS has an article about cats and babies:

A harmless cute thing. Get your pictures now, because once your baby comes into their full and terrible toddler powers, the cat will most likely be cured of all interest for a period of (perhaps many) years . . . and thats ok.

I think there's almost a protective instinct. My daughter is 13 months old, and while the cats generally run during the day (we're slowly working on gentle supervised petting), my cat seems to stay in the landing outside our room when she's asleep in the crib, and will come up on the bed and sit by my legs when I'm breastfeeding at night. Almost like she feels like she needs to guard us in the dark.
