Carrots and IBD

My cat ate a canned food with carrots in it at 8pm last night, then a different canned food without carrots at 3:30 am, and at 11am he threw up carrots. Have they been sitting in his stomach this entire time? He's eaten these foods for the last week and a half and just threw it up. Do I need to switch or wait it out?

One of my dogs threw up just the potato from a food that had potatoes in it. Personally, I've been careful not to give her anything with potatoes in it since. I'd say the same, although you said he's eaten this carrot food before with no problems. Possibly, he has developed an intolerance for carrots. It probably wouldn't hurt if you gave it to him again in a few days to see if it was just a one-off thing. if he throws up carrots again, I guess I'd try to avoid foods with carrots.

Throwing up food hours after eating is usually a sign of hairballs. Tis the season, anyway.
