Well, Spike has diarrhea and weighs 13 1/2 pounds. I did give him some cooked pumpkin in a syringe--so it was about 2 c.c.'s. How much does a cat take of it, to help with diarrhea?(and how often?) I had him checked for parasites and it came back negative. He WAS on antibiotics for a month--then I changed his food, and I think his tummy is reacting to all of the above! I also gave him a syringe of yogurt, mixed with a tiny bit of Karo syrup--and he DID like that!
So am thinking I am going to mix them together, as he did NOT seem to like the pumpkin very much! So, if anyone can give me an idea about the doseage, I would SO appreciate it!
p.s. If the diarrhea does not go away, I will bring in another stool sample to his Vet's and have them check it again....

I don't have an answer on the pumpkin for you, because I have never used it. I have always gone the prescription route if need be. However, if you are giving yogurt and Karo syrup, that in itself may cause loose stools, so I would just stick to to the pumpkin.

HMMMMMM... I had heard quite a bit, that canned yogurt with it's acidopholis balanced the bacterial ratio in the intestines after having antibiotics (he was on antibiotics for ONE MONTH straight!) And the tiny bit of Karo was so he'd swallow the yogurt... Do you think I am making it all worse by giving him that??? Gosh, that is the LAST thing I want to do to my poor little sick kitty!!!

I start out with just under a teaspoon of pumpkin mixed with canned food, and feed that three times a day. If you have changed food on him abruptly that could be causing the upset as well.

as long as it was just a small amount I don't think it would cause loose stools. But it is a common way to get a constipated infant to loosen up.

I use fresh, cooked pumpkin, and generally give JC 3 - 4 heaped tablespoons of it, whenever it is available (it's one of his favorite foods). A homemade concoction of chicken, rice and carrots also generally sits well in upset feline or canine tummies.

Oh gosh!! THANKS SO MUCH, all of you!! I am making a concoction right now--and will give him the correct amount of pumpkin too!!
I AM seeing the Vet early next week, and getting bloodwork done on Spike--just so I don't miss anything....
But I appreciate SO much, all your posts!!!!!!!
