Can kittens be treated for ear mites?

The vet at our local PetExpress started our recently rescued orphaned kitten on medicine for a parasite.  She's 1 lb, and about 5 weeks old.  She also has ear mites, but that vet said she's too little to be treated for it.  That doesn't sound right to me.   What do you all know about it?

At the least her ears should be cleaned daily and the Tresaderm added as soon as she's old enough to tolerate it.

Thanks for the advice.  Another 2 questions, though:  How do you suggest to clean the ears?  I've heard to use alcohol and a cotton ball for each ear.  OK?

Also:  When do you think she'll be ready for the Tresaderm?
