Calico or Tortouiseshell

Can anyone give me some insight on if you would consider this little cutie tortoiseshell or calico?

Depending on who you ask, calico could be

-Any tortie with white
-Only torties with high white
-Torties with any white and a patched rather than brindled/mixed pattern

It's kind of a nebulous distinction.

Pretty kitty!!! It is a tortoiseshell with white. Calico colors are usually in distinct patches, not blended like tortie's.

Oh, I can't tell, but if this kitten has the "M" marking on its forehead, it would actually be considered a torbie (tabby & tortie mix).

it is all very confusing to me lol
She/He was born on July 6th and I will be getting her/him on Sept 1st.
The owner said she thinks it’s a boy but I thought that calico are usually almost always female.

Any cat with the genes that produce calicos and torties, and even torbies, would make it quite rare for your kitten to be a male.

It's sometimes hard to tell sex in kittens under 8 weeks, so my almost-definitely-female calico (who I'll probably be getting around the same time as you get your baby, but mine was born June 18) was also assumed to be a boy when she was first looked at by her foster caretaker.
